Workshops will be held Apr. 22 in Los Angeles and Apr. 24 in Houston to discuss the federal government’s new voluntary near-miss reporting system for oil and gas producers, the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement announced in a Mar. 31 Federal Register notice.
BSEE and the US Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics signed an interagency agreement to development the system in November 2013, the US Department of the Interior agency said.
It said BTS will maintain control of the individual confidential reports. Progress reports, trends analyses, and aggregated data will be developed by BTS and made publicly available on its web site. The BTS reports will help BSEE work with the offshore oil and gas industry to identify important trends and enhance safety across all operations.
The workshops will give producers, drilling contractors, service and supply companies, other stakeholders, and the general public opportunities to discuss the system and contribute to its development, it indicated. Online registrations will be accepted through Apr. 11.
