RWE Dea Norge starts appraisal drilling at Titan

RWE Dea Norge AS has started drilling appraisal well 35/9-11 S to assess the Titan discovery in production license 420 about 16 km west of Gjoa field in the North Sea. It’s the first of two wells to be drilled on the license this year.

RWE Dea Norge contracted the Leiv Eiriksson semisubmersible rig to drill the well in 370 m of water. The primary target is the Brent group at 3,770 m subsea, with secondary targets in the Heather and Cook formations.

The well is expected to be completed in 60-120 days. Recoverable volumes are estimated at 12 million standard cu m of oil equivalent.

The company in 2010 reported an oil discovery it deemed “promising” in well 35/9-6 S in a 435 m hydrocarbon column in the Heather, Cook, and Drake formations and in the Brent group (OGJ Online, Dec. 8, 2010).

Two years later RWE Dea Norge said the complexity of the reservoir necessitated the collection of 3D seismic data.

RWE Dea Norge operates Titan with 30% interest. Partners include Statoil Petroleum AS 40% and Idemitsu Petroleum Norge AS 30%.
