Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL), Mumbai, plans to shut down one of four crude distillation units for maintenance at its 1.24 million-b/d Jamnagar refining and petrochemical complex in Gujarat, India.

Beginning on Mar. 20, the unit is scheduled to be shut for about 3½ weeks for maintenance and inspection activities, RIL said.

In addition to making necessary modifications to improve the reliability and performance of the crude unit, RIL also will use the scheduled shutdown period to replace catalyst at the plant’s vacuum gas oil and naphtha hydrotreater, the company said.

All other units at the refining complex will continue to operate at normal levels during the shutdown, according to RIL.

On the petrochemical side, RIL recently confirmed an ongoing project to expand production capacity of ethylene and other petroleum products at the Jamnagar complex also remains under way (OGJ Online, Jan. 22, 2014; July 6, 2012; May 3, 2012).
