Penn Virginia appoints chief operating officer

Penn Virginia Corp.’s board has named John A. Brooks as executive vice-president and chief operating officer, effective Jan. 1, 2014. Brooks currently serves as executive vice-president, operations, a position he has held since February.

Brooks has worked in several operational management positions since 2002, including senior vice-president from February 2012 to February this year.

“John’s excellent leadership has been critical to the development and expansion of our Eagle Ford shale position,” noted H. Baird Whitehead, Penn Virginia’s president and chief executive officer.

The company in April acquired producing and undeveloped leasehold interests in the Eagle Ford from Magnum Hunter Resources Corp. for $400 million. The deal encompassed 40,600 gross (19,000 net) acres with 43 producing wells and 345 potential drill sites. Penn Virginia said at the time estimated proved reserves were 12 million boe with production of 3,200 boe/d (OGJ Online, Apr. 8, 2013).

In October 2012, the company added 4,100 net acres for $10 million, increasing its position in the play at the time to 40,100 gross (30,000 net) acres (OGJ Online, Oct. 3, 2012).
