US President Barack Obama has announced plans to nominate Tommy Beaudreau, director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and assistant secretary for Land and Minerals Management, to be the Department of Interior’s assistant secretary for policy, management, and budget.

Beaudreau joined the DOI in June 2010 during reforms of offshore regulation after the Deepwater Horizon blowout and oil spill, including reorganization of the former Minerals Management Service.

He previously served as the senior advisor to the director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation, and Enforcement.

If confirmed by the Senate, Beaudreau would replace Rhea S. Suh, whom Obama nominated as Interior’s assistant secretary for fish and wildlife and parks.
