Fire hits Chevron’s Pascagoula refinery

Fire broke out early on Nov. 15 at a furnace in the Cracking II unit area of Chevron Corp.’s 330,000-b/d Pascagoula, Miss., refinery.

“Refinery teams have responded to the emergency, and the site is secure,” Chevron said in a statement on its web site. The company said it will continue to work with local, state, and federal authorities, who have already been providing assistance.

While the company did confirm the fatality of one Chevron employee, no details regarding current operations at the refinery were available. Cause of the fire was not immediately known.
