Eni sees at least 8 tcf of gas in place at Evans Shoal

Results of an appraisal well have led the Shell-operated license group to estimate that Evans Shoal gas field in the northern Bonaparte basin offshore Western Australia contains at least 8 tcf of raw gas in place.

Tests of the Evans Shoal North-1 well, 12 km from Evans Shoal-2, indicate that the two wells share common reservoir characteristics and are in hydraulic communication, said partner Eni SPA, which operated the well on behalf of the joint venture.

Flow from Evans Shoal North-1 “reached the facility constraint of 30 MMscfd,” Eni said. The well went to 3,955 m in 111 m of water on the NT/P48 exploration permit in the Timor Sea 300 km northwest of Darwin.

“Eni remains committed to fast-track development of the significant and known resources in this exploration area,” Eni said.

Interest owners in the NT/P48 joint venture are Shell, operator, and Eni Australia Ltd. 32.5% each, Petronas Carigali (Australia) Pty. Ltd. 25%, and Osaka Gas Australia Pty. Ltd. 10%.
