The operator of the La Casona-2 appraisal well on the El Eden block in Colombia’s Llanos basin said that logs indicate potential oil pay in the Mirador and Une formations, said Petroamerica Oil Corp., Calgary.

Mechanical issues necessitated a sidetrack, but the well was able to reach its target depth of 16,700 ft and evaluate the objective formations.

The drilling rig will be moved to the Rumi-1 exploratory well on the El Eden block, in which Petroamerica has a 40% interest. The long-term test production facility for the La Casona-1 well, which includes gas compression, is expected to be commissioned following the rig move, and La Casona-1 is expected to start producing in November.

Meanwhile, the operator of the Los Ocarros block in which Petroamerica has a 50% working interest has drilled the La Guira-1 exploratory well to 12,500 ft and set casing for tests of the Mirador and Gacheta formations. The La Guira prospect is 7 km south of Las Maracas field.
