The US Bureau of Land Management opened a new public comment period for its proposed revisions to its commercial oil shale regulations. Comments will be accepted until July 15, it said.
BLM proposed the revisions on Mar. 27, with a comment period ending May 28. It said it received requests from several interested parties for an extension so they could review the proposal and its potential impacts more thoroughly.
The US Department of the Interior agency is considering whether a single royalty rate or royalty structures should be set in advance or whether to retain some administrative flexibility to adjust royalty rates when more information is available about costs of production, energy inputs, and impacts associated with various emerging extraction technologies.
It asked interested parties not to resubmit comments filed during the earlier comment period.
