Repsol Exploracion Peru Sucursal del Peru has let a front-end engineering and design contract to UniversalPegasus International (UPI) for its first compressor station in Peru. The station will help transport production from Repsol’s discoveries in the NGL-rich Ucayali basin, including the Camisea field.
UPI will specify equipment and fabrication designs bearing in mind size and weight limitations for cargo that can only be moved using barges during the annual 3-month flood season. It expects to complete construction in 4 months.
This award occurred within the bounds of a previous umbrella agreement that could imply further work for UPI. In addition to managing the site’s high NGL content, UPI said its design would address protecting the environmentally sensitive Amazon rainforest.
Repsol last year made a gas-condensate discovery with a resource potential of 1-2 tcf in the Ucayali basin near the Camisea gas-condensate fields and plans to continue exploring Block 57. It already has one discovery in the same block under accelerated development (OGJ Online, Sept. 6, 2012).
