The Carlsberg prospect well encountered no Upper Triassic Skagerrak formation sands, the primary target. The secondary target, an Upper Cretaceous chalk, was found at the predicted depth but contained only water.
The well was drilled to 2,957 m vertical depth below mean sea level in 82 m of water, bottoming in the Triassic Smith Bank formation.
The Maersk Guardian jack up, which drilled the well, will be moved to Brynhild field, operated by Lundin 24 km south, for development drilling.
Lundin Norway AS operates PL495 with a 60% working interest. Tullow Oil Norge AS holds the remainder.
