ONGC signs MOU for urea plant in Tripura

Oil & Natural Gas Corp. of India has signed a memorandum of understanding to enter the urea fertilizer business in a move that would boost development of natural gas it has discovered over the past 2 decades in Tripura.

The agreement is with MS Chambal Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd. and the government of Tripura, which is in far northeastern India.

The MOU covers a urea fertilizer plant fed by 2.4 million standard cu m/day of natural gas to produce 1.3 million tonnes/year of urea.

At Palatana, Tripura, ONGC Tripura Power Co. Ltd. is starting up a gas-fired combined-cycle power generation plant that eventually will have capacity of 726.6 Mw, enabling ONGC to raise gas production in Tripura to more than 5.5 million cu m/day from 1.7 million cu m/day.
