Dana Petroleum PLC has spudded an exploratory well from near its De Ruyter platform offshore the Netherlands to test new-pool potential.

The P11-08 well, drilled by the Noble Lynda Bossler jack up, will test the presence of oil beneath a gas cap in Triassic Volpriehausen substrata.

The well is immediately west and above the producing Volpriehausen and Hewett/Fringe compartments of De Ruyter oil field, which is in 35 m of water 60 km northwest of The Hague.

If the well finds hydrocarbons, Dana will drill a horizontal sidetrack to allow production to begin immediately.

It’s the first in a five-well campaign to explore potential around existing platforms in the southern North Sea, Dana said.

Interests in the P11-08 well are Dana 60% and EBN 40%.
