OIL lets contract for crude pipeline upgrade

Oil India Ltd. (OIL) has let an engineering, procurement, and construction management contract to Engineers India Ltd. to upgrade its 1,157-km Naharkatiya-Barauni crude oil pipeline. The pipeline, commissioned in 1962, extends from both Naharkatiya and Barauni to Bongaigaon using nine pumping stations to transport 7 million tonnes/year of oil.

OIL plans to upgrade pumping stations and terminals to reduce operating costs and increase throughput to 8 million tpy. It expects mechanical completion of the project by early 2015.

Engineers India also is performing project management for GAIL India Ltd.’s 870-mile Dabhol-Bangalore natural gas pipeline project, which was in final commissioning late last month (OGJ Online, Jan. 22, 2013).
