Norway: Lundin praises Sverdrup appraisal result

The latest appraisal well in Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea offshore Norway has encountered excellent reservoir and confirmed the deep oil-water contact, said a unit of Lundin Petroleum AB, Stockholm.

Lundin Norway AS said the 16/2-16AT2 well in PL501 was drilled as a sidetrack of the 16/2-16 well on the field’s northeastern flank 1,000 m west of the main bore hole. Objective of the sidetrack was to improve the understanding of the lateral variations in reservoir qualities and relations to oil- water contacts in neighboring wells.

The well encountered a 30-m gross oil column with largely excellent reservoir quality in the Jurassic reservoir sequence. The acquired data confirms an oil-water contact at approximately the same level as in the 16/2-10 well, which is the deepest observed in Johan Sverdrup.

The 16/2-16 and 16/2-16A wells were drilled with the Transocean Winner rig, which will move to PL338 to drill the Lundin Norway-operated Jorvik prospect.

Lundin Norway is operator of PL501 with a 40% interest, Statoil Petroleum AS has 40%, and Maersk Oil Norway AS has 20%.
