Llanos Las Maracas field well opens third oil pay zone

Petroamerica Oil Corp., Calgary, said its No. 6 well in Las Maracas field in the Llanos basin of Colombia has tested 29° gravity oil at 600 b/d from the Une Formation, the field’s third pay zone after the Mirador and Gacheta formations.

Petroamerica completed the well in the field’s main Middle Gacheta sand interval at 1,850 b/d of oil, natural, with less than 0.5% water cut on an electric submersible pump.

In terms of potential net pay thickness, this is the field’s best well, the company said. Petrophysical evaluation of wireline logs indicates 100 ft measured depth of total net oil pay, including 25 ft MD in the Mirador, 53 ft MD in Middle Gacheta, 10.5 ft MD in Lower Gacheta, and 11.5 ft in Une.

On a 15-hr test on an open choke, the Une interval produced light oil under natural flow from a 4-ft perforated interval at a stabilized 600 b/d with 1.5% water-cut at the end of the test. The average oil rate following fluid unloading was 642 b/d with short-term peaks above 700 b/d.

Petroamerica skidded the rig on the same pad and is drilling below 12,195 ft at Las Maracas-7, to be followed by the drilling of a water disposal well.

Petroamerica holds a 50% participating interest in the Los Ocarros block that contains Las Maracas field.
