    Jubilant Energy NV, Amsterdam, has spudded the North Atharamura-1 vertical well on the Tripura block in India as a follow-up to its 2012 Matabari-1 indicated gas discovery and to explore deeper formations.

    CC Energy Development SAL has begun a test program at the B4EW4 exploratory well on Block 4 onshore northern Oman after it encountered oil in four formations.
  • 02/12/2013 -- Ernst & Young provides Arctic assessment
    The quest for Arctic oil and gas resources “is not for the faint of heart, nor for those with less-than-deep pockets,” Ernst & Young said in a special report, adding operators confront a harsh climate, limited infrastructure, exceptionally long lead times, and complex logistics for spill containment and recovery.

    Harvest Natural Resources Reservoir Inc., Houston, will start conceptual engineering studies with the aim of evaluating the commerciality of the discovered oil in the Gamba and Dentale reservoirs at Tortue, the company’s previous Ruche oil discovery, and the nearby Walt Whitman and Moubenga oil discoveries offshore Gabon.

    Chevron Corp. said its Kentish Knock South-1 exploratory well in the Exmouth Plateau area of the Carnarvon basin offshore Western Australia encountered 246 ft of net gas pay in Triassic Upper Mungaroo sands.

    A group led by the US unit of Encana Corp. has observed an improvement in the oil production rate from a horizontal Tuscaloosa marine shale well in Wilkinson County, Miss.

    A group led by a subsidiary of Eni SPA has made a third light oil discovery in Egypt’s Western Desert on the Meleiha concession, where oil production is rising and considerable exploratory potential is said to remain.

    Total SA has been awarded and signed production sharing contracts for blocks 10 and 11 in Mediterranean deep water southwest of Cyprus and sees a different play on each block.

    Bill Barrett Corp., Denver, has built its production mix the past 2 years to 24% oil at the end of 2012, a year during which it wrote down natural gas reserves values and ceased gas drilling in two Rocky Mountain basins.
