  • 02/12/2013 -- EIA forecasts 90.2 million b/d of liquid fuels consumption this year
    Worldwide liquid fuels consumption is expected to reach 90.2 million b/d this year and 91.6 million b/d in 2014, according to the latest Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) from the US Energy Information Administration.

    Statoil ASA signed a $115 million contract with Archer to plug and abandon 12 gas wells of Heimdal field in the Norwegian North Sea.
  • 02/08/2013 -- US drilling rig count falls 5 units to 1,759
    The US drilling rig count dropped by 5 units during the week ended Feb. 8, with the total number of rotary rigs reaching 1,759, Baker Hughes Inc. reported. That compared with 1,989 rigs working in the comparable week last year.
  • 02/05/2013 -- Brownfield allowance helps Thistle renewal
    EnQuest PLC, London, has received a brownfield tax allowance to support redevelopment of Thistle oil field in the northern UK North Sea.
  • 02/01/2013 -- Seadrill orders two jack up drilling rigs for 2015 delivery
    Seadrill Ltd. ordered two high-specification jack up drilling rigs from Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore Inc. in China, and the rigs, worth $230 million total, are scheduled for delivery during the first half of 2015.

    Partners in a pilot development of the Late Devonian Grosmont formation in Alberta report progress toward commercial production of bitumen, which would be the first for the expansive carbonate.

    The latest appraisal well in Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea offshore Norway has encountered excellent reservoir and confirmed the deep oil-water contact, said a unit of Lundin Petroleum AB, Stockholm.
  • 01/18/2013 -- Comment sought on 4,250-well Wyoming gas project
    The US Bureau of Land Management is seeking comment on a proposed Wyoming natural gas development involving up to 4,250 wells on 265,000 acres in Fremont, Natrona, and Sweetwater counties. It also wants comments on possibly amending the 2007 Casper Resource Management Plan, which could be required for the project, it added, BLM’s Lander field office said on Jan. 17.
