UK to boost support for low-carbon energy

Public support of low-carbon energy in the UK will increase to £9.8 billion in 2020 from £2.35 billion at present under energy-policy changes announced Nov. 23 by the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

Adjusted for expected inflation, the support level in 2020 will be £7.6 billion in 2012 money.

Imminent energy legislation will include the increase, financed through charges to energy consumers, along with decarbonization targets and mechanisms to stabilize the prices of low-carbon energy.
