Energen to add exploration, operations executives

The board of Energen Corp., Birmingham, Ala., has elected David A. Godsey and David J. Minor to head the exploration and operations efforts of the company’s oil and gas exploration and production unit, Energen Resources Corp.

The company is focused on the exploration and development of its oil and natural gas liquids assets in the Permian basin, where it is developing the Wolfberry and Third Bone Spring plays and in the beginning stages of testing the Wolfcamp and Cline potential across its extensive acreage position.

As senior vice-president of exploration and geology effective Dec. 10, 2012, Godsey brings 34 years of experience in prospect generation and evaluation, including 28 years in the Permian basin.

Godsey succeeds Ronald Tisdale, who will retire at the end of the year after serving the company for more than 25 years. Tisdale was staff geologist at Union Oil Co. before joining Energen.

Minor joins Energen Resources effective Dec. 1, 2012, as senior vice-president of operations. He has more than 30 years of engineering and engineering management experience in the energy industry, including onshore and offshore project planning, reservoir, drilling, completion, and production.

Minor succeeds Paul Sparks, who has assumed new duties as senior vice-president of resource development and technology. Sparks joined Energen Resources in 1989; he previously worked with Amoco Production Co.

Since 2003 Godsey has worked at Chesapeake Energy and has served as geoscience manager-Permian basin there since 2009. He also served as project geologist at EOG Resources and was a founding partner and co-owner of Enerquest Resources.

Minor is the founder of Firebird Energy LLC, which offers petroleum engineering and project management consulting services to the energy industry. He most recently served under contract as executive director of operations for Far East Energy Co.

Minor previously was senior vice-president-technology for CDX Gas LLC and in operational capacities at El Paso E&P Co. and Sonat Exploration Co.
