HRT Participacoes em Petroleo SA, Rio de Janeiro, said its vertical 1-HRT-8-AM well on the SOL-T-169 block in Brazil’s Solimoes basin is a discovery that drillstem tested gas and confirms the gas trend east of Jurua field.

HRT, which is exploring area with TNK-BP subsidiary TNK-Brasil, said the Jurua sandstone at 3,122-28 m flowed at the rate of 9.25 MMcfd on a 40/64-in. choke. HRT said the prospect is part of a northeast-southwest structure that covers about 40 sq km and can hold a mean recoverable 170-290 bcf of gas.

Previous discoveries on the trend came at the 1-HRT-5-AM and 1-HRT-2-AM wells. HRT said the 1-HRT-8-AM well will be part of an evaluation plan it plans to submit to Brazil’s ANP agency.
