Tecpetrol, PetroNova testing Llanos oil discovery

Tecpetrol Colombia has an oil discovery on the CPO-07 block in the Llanos basin in Colombia, said 20% working interest owner PetroNova Inc., Calgary.

The Atarraya-1 well went to a total depth of 4,908 ft, and mud log and petrophysical interpretation identified four prospective sands in the C7 Carbonera formation. Well tests conducted in each of the sands resulted in oil production from the upper sand of the C7 Carbonera, with an average porosity of 27% where 12 ft of net pay was identified and perforated.

The well was tested over 25 hr producing 23° gravity oil by natural flow on different choke sizes. A test on a 1-in. choke for 7 hr averaged 830 b/d, natural, with 0.5% BS&W. The well will be completed in the upper C7 sand and tested on a jet pump. An extended production test will be performed once a permit is issued.

Atarraya-1 well is the fourth of a nine-well exploratory drilling campaign on the CPO-06, CPO-07, and CPO-13 blocks operated by Tecpetrol Colombia and in which PetroNova has 20% working interest. The campaign will continue with two more wildcats on CPO-07, after which PetroNova will drill three wildcats on CPO-13.

PetroNova said it considers CPO-07 to be a high-potential block given its proximity to and correlation with the neighboring productive Ocelote and Caracara fields.
