Canada, Poland eye cooperation on energy

Unconventional oil and gas resources topped a list of areas that the governments of Canada and Poland have identified as having “potential for further dialog and cooperation.”

In a joint statement, the governments cited Canada’s shale gas and tight oil plays and Poland’s reported potential for shale gas and unconventional oil.

“Canada and Poland share the view that shale gas development can be done safely, without significant environmental impacts, while contributing significant economic and employment benefits,” the statement said.

Other areas of possible cooperation listed in the statement were “science-based, fair, and nondiscriminatory regulation;” “low-emission technologies;” “nuclear energy;” “energy efficiency, smart meters, and smart grids;” and “renewable energy.”
