Saudi plant trains start up for Karan gas
Saudi Aramco has started up a gas-treatment and a sulfur-recovery train dedicated to production from offshore Karan natural gas field at its Khursaniyah Gas Plant.
Karan began producing last year as the kingdom’s first offshore nonassociated gas field, but output of 500 MMscfd was handled by existing facilities at Khursaniyah (OGJ Online, July 27, 2011).
Khursaniyah now can handle 1 bscfd of Karan gas. That capacity is to increase to 1.8 bscfd when two additional trains come online soon.
In the field, 160 km north of Dhahran, a fifth platform is to begin operation in the third quarter this year.
