Indonesia to start up first floating regas

PT Nusantara Regas expects to start up by May 1 Indonesia’s first floating regasification vessel, the Regas Satu FSRU, for the West Java FSRU project (OGJ, Apr. 2, 2012, p. 122). The Regas Satu floating storage and regasification unit set sail this week from the Jurong shipyard in Singapore, heading for Jakarta Bay.

With a maximum capacity of 3 million tonnes/year, the vessel will supply gas to the Muara Karang PLTGU and Tanjung Priok PLTGU, amounting to 400 MMscfd, according to Pertamina.

The FSRU will be operated by Nusantara Regas, which is jointly owned by Pertamina (60%) and Perusahaan Gas Negara (40%). West Java FSRU will receive its LNG from Bontang up to 11.75 million tonnes in 11 years.

Pertamina said domestic demand for gas reached about 2 bcfd in 2008 and expects it to jump to 4.5 bcfd in 2020, driven mainly by increases in power generation, industrial, fertilizer, transportation, and household demand.
