NiSource to build Utica natural gas gathering system

NiSource Gas Transmission & Storage’s Midstream Services plans to build a roughly 90-mile, large-diameter natural gas gathering system using Columbia Gas Transmission’s north/south-running V-100 and V-138 systems right-of-ways. The system, which will extend through Ohio’s Columbiana, Carroll, Jefferson, Harrison, Belmont, and Monroe counties, will gather both wet and dry gas from the Utica shale.

The company also has purchased a 200-MMcfd cryogenic natural gas liquids processing plant, to be delivered July. The plant and related facilities will be midway on the wet section of the gathering system in Harrison County and will process liquids-rich gas flowing from both the north and south. Both the pipeline and processing will be expandable beyond 200 MMcfd.

NGTS will also build a dry gas line starting at the tailgate of the processing plant and gathering additional dry gas produced in the Utica trend. The system will deliver gas to multiple interconnects including Texas Eastern (Spectra), Rocky Mountain Express (Kinder Morgan), and Columbia Gas.

MarkWest Energy Partners LP last month announced plans to add more than 600 MMcfd of processing capacity and 140,000 b/d of fractionation capacity in the Utica and Marcellus shales (OGJ Online, Feb. 1, 2012).
