Petroleo Brasileiro SA has gauged an oil and gas discovery on a 100% owned block in the Solimoes basin in Brazil’s Amazonas state.

The 1-BRSA-961-AM well, unofficially known as Igarape Chibata Leste, on Block SOL-T-171 indicated a production capacity of 1,400 b/d of 41° gravity oil and 1.6 MMcfd of gas from the Jurua formation. Total depth is 3,295 m.

Petrobras said the well is located in Coari, 25 km from the Urucu oil province. It is the second successful exploratory well on the block, where the company has been evaluating the 1-BRSA-769-AM discovery well, unofficially known as Igarape Chibata, since 2010.

If the economic viability of the finds are confirmed, they will constitute a new oil and natural gas production cluster in the basin, Petrobras said.

Petrobras’s production in Amazonas is 388 MMcfd of gas, 1,300 tpd of liquefied petroleum gas, and 53,000 b/d of oil.
