Lea County, NM, gets horizontal Brushy Canyon oil find

Red Mountain Resources Inc., Dallas, said it initiated oil production from the Delaware Brushy Canyon reservoir at its Madera 24-2H horizontal well in Lea County, NM.

Initial production rate is 1,043 b/d, 86% oil, flowing up 7-in. casing with 470 psi on a 29/64-in. choke. The well has a 4,620-ft lateral at 9,028 ft true vertical depth.

A 20-stage open-hole completion system was run, and all 20 stages were opened to the wellbore. Nineteen of the 20 stages were frac treated with a total of 1,500,000 lb. of sand.

Red Mountain has 96.5% working interest and 72.375% net revenue interest in the Madera 24-2H.

The Madera prospect is comprised of 1,926 gross (1,154 net) acres and includes Delaware, Avalon shale, and Strawn formations. In addition to the Madera 24-2H well, RMR expects to drill 11 Delaware wells (five proved undeveloped and six probable locations), 12 Avalon shale locations (one PUD and 11 probable locations), and two Strawn locations (one PUD and one probable).
