• 10/01/2012 -- Wynnewood Refining explosion kills one worker
  A Sept. 28 boiler explosion at a Wynnewood, Okla., refinery owned by CVR Energy Inc. of Sugar Land, Tex., killed one worker and critically injured another, a spokeswoman with the US Department of Labor said Oct. 1, adding the incident is under investigation.
• 09/27/2012 -- Williams to provide gas processing in Canada's oil sands
  Williams Cos. Inc., Tulsa, has signed a gas processing agreement with a producer in the Canadian oil sands, according to a company announcement that did not name the producer. OGJ data, however, suggest it is Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., Calgary.

  Technip has received contracts for front-end engineering design of modernization projects that will expand crude capacities of two small refineries in Kazakhstan.
• 09/25/2012 -- Westlake Chemical to start up ethylene expansion at Lake Charles
  Westlake Chemical Corp., Houston, will perform planned maintenance and an expansion of the Petro 2 ethylene unit at the company’s complex in Lake Charles, La., in first-quarter 2013.
• 09/25/2012 -- Lukoil unit resumes olefins production
  Stavrolen, a subsidiary of Lukoil, has resumed full production of ethylene and propylene at its complex in the Stavropol region of Russia after completing repairs to the ethylene unit, which was damaged by fire in mid-December 2011.

  Italy’s Eni SPA will turn its 80,000-b/d Venice refinery at Porto Marghera, Italy, into a “biorefinery” based on proprietary technology for the production of biodiesel.

• 09/21/2012 -- Refinery to expand in northeastern India
  Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. (NRL), which operates a 3 million tonne/year (tpy) refinery in the Golaghat district of Assam in far-northeastern India, plans to increase crude-distillation capacity to 8-9 million tpy.
• 09/19/2012 -- Oil products plant considers adding GTL capacity
  Calumet Specialty Products Partners LP, Indianapolis, earlier this month said it is considering adding a 1,000-b/d gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant to its Karns City, Pa., specialty products plant. This would be the first GTL installation in North America, so far as OGJ can determine; a few larger projects are under study and planning.
