    TNK-BP said it will invest $537 million to add isomerization and cat-cracked gasoline hydrotreating capacity at its 340,000 b/d Ryazan refinery about 120 miles southeast of Moscow.
  • 10/15/2012 -- Petronas, US firm to develop carbon dioxide capture technology
    Malaysia’s state oil company Petronas has joined with Roselle, Ill.-based LanzaTech to develop means for capturing carbon dioxide and methane from, among other sources, refinery offgases and natural gas wells and produce acetic acid, a chemical with applications in the polymers and plastics markets, according to a LanzaTech announcement.

    China National Petroleum Corp. has started up a 600,000-tonne/year ethylene unit that doubles capacity of Daqing Petrochemical with the country’s first ethylene plant based on domestically developed technology.

    ICA Fluor, an industrial engineering partnership of Irving, Tex.-based Fluor Corp. and Empresas ICA, is part of a joint venture that has been awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction contract by Braskem Idesa SAPI.
  • 10/05/2012 -- Fire kills worker at Russian refinery
    A fire at TNK-BP’s 130,000-b/d Saratov refinery in southwestern Russia burned four workers on Oct. 4, killing one. Injuries to the other three were not considered life-threatening.
  • 10/04/2012 -- Jiutai to use KBR olefins recovery process
    Jiutai Energy Group, Beijing, has let a license and process design package contract to KBR for recovery of olefins from methanol produced from coal at its plant at Ordos, Inner Mongolia.
  • 10/02/2012 -- Westlake to change feed to Kentucky ethylene cracker
    Westlake Chemical Corp., Houston, will convert the feed to its Calvert City, Ky., ethylene plant to ethane from propane and increase ethylene production capacity to 630 million lb/year (about 286,000 tonnes/year) from 450 million lb/year.
