Netherlands: Vermilion to buy Vinkega gas field stakes

A unit of Vermilion Energy Trust, Calgary, will purchase the interests it didn’t own in its 2009 Vinkega discovery in the northern Netherlands.

Vermilion Oil & Gas Netherlands BV spudded Vinkega-1 on Nov. 16, 2009, on the Gorredijk license. The field has been mapped as underlying part of Gorredijk and part of the Drenthe III license, which is held by Northern Petroleum Nederland BV, Nederlandse Aardolie Mij. BV, and Dyas BV.

All Drenthe III license interest holders have agreed to sell their respective Drenthe III interests in Vinkega field to Vermilion. Northern considered that Vinkega is not a prospect of sufficient size and structural appeal to have attracted a wildcat well on the Drenthe III license alone.

Vermilion, which holds 42.3% interest in the Gorredijk license, said the well production tested more than 30 MMcfd from two formations. It anticipates starting production from the Rotliegendes formation in early 2012. Vermilion has identified more than 30 other prospects on 290,000 net acres in the northern Netherlands.
