Thailand: Bua Ban North horizontal well cuts oil pay

Coastal Energy Co. has drilled a horizontal well at Bua Ban North field in the Gulf of Thailand and is preparing it to go on production.

Bua Ban North A-10, the first horizontal development well at Bua Ban North, was drilled into the Miocene reservoir on the western side of the field and encountered 1,185 ft of high-quality net pay. The lateral section is at 3,695 ft true vertical depth, 130 ft above the known water level.

The A-10 well has been completed with a submersible pump and is ready to begin production as soon as the MOPU installation is complete, expected by the end of the week.

Coastal will spud the Bua Ban North A-11 well next, to be drilled down the high structural fault plane of the western fault block. The company expects all Bua Ban North wells to be online and producing by mid-January 2012.
