Senegal: African Petroleum gets deepwater blocks

A unit of African Petroleum Corp. Ltd., Perth, has been awarded two deepwater blocks totaling more than 4.5 million acres in the Atlantic off Senegal.

African Petroleum Senegal will be operator with 90% interests in the Rufisque Offshore Profond and Senegal Offshore Sud Profond blocks. Its exploratory program will target deepwater Upper Cretaceous submarine fans considered to have similar potential as discoveries in Jubilee field off Ghana and the Mercury discovery off Sierra Leone.

African Petroleum holds a 100% interest in blocks LB-08 and LB-09 off Liberia, where it has shot 5,100 sq km of 3D seismic. It has drilled one well on LB-09 with encouraging results and plans to drill another well in the same block in the first quarter of 2012.

African Petroleum holds a 100% interest in Block SL-03 off Sierra Leone where it has shot 2,500 sq km of 3D seismic. The company also holds a 60% operating interest in blocks A1 and A4 off Gambia, where it has shot 2,500 sq km of 3D seismic in conjunction with its partner Buried Hill Gambia BV.
