A unit of Total SA has tested light oil at high rates in a discovery in the southeastern corner of Oil Mining Lease 102 offshore Nigeria.

The Total E&P Nigeria Ltd. Etisong North-1 well bottomed at 2,387 m TD in 80 m of water and encountered three reservoirs, one of which flowed 8,500 b/d of 40° gravity oil on test. The well is 65 km off Nigeria’s southeastern coast and about 15 km southeast of Ofon oil field (OGJ Online, July 24, 2007).

An earlier discovery on OML 102, Etisong-1, drilled to 2,207 m in 70 m of water, tested more than 6,000 b/d of oil of similar quality from turbiditic reservoirs (OGJ Online, Dec. 29, 2008).

The Total subsidiary operates the license with a 40% interest. Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. holds 60%.
