The US Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comments on a plan by Fram Operating LLC to develop oil in the Cretaceous Dakota formation at 4,500-5,000 ft in Mesa County near Whitewater, Colo., about 15 miles east of Grand Junction.
The proposal replaces a much larger one from spring 2010 which the Colorado Springs independent producer subsequently withdrew, BLM’s Grand Junction field office said in a Nov. 7 announcement.
It said that Fram Operating, a US subsidiary of Fram Exploration AS, Trondheim, Norway, has proposed drilling up to 108 new wells from 12 new well pads beginning in 2012, with about 1 mile of new roads and 27 miles of pipeline in a 26,000-acre area of the 90,400-acre unit.
BLM said that it will accept comments for an environmental assessment it is preparing at its Grand Junction field office through Dec. 1. Copies of the proposal and maps of the area are available there and online, it added.
