Egypt: Western Desert Cretaceous discoveries gauged

By OGJ editors

A group led by Kuwait Energy has gauged two gas-condensate discoveries in Cretaceous formations on the Abu Sennan concession in Egypt’s Western Desert.

The GPZZ-4 well tested at 7 MMscfd and 850 b/d from the Lower Bahariya formation and 1.6 MMscfd and 150 b/d from the Abu Roash G member and Upper Bahariya formations. The Al Ahmadi-1 well tested at 13.5 MMscfd and 800 b/d from the Abu Roash G and 1 MMscfd and 70 b/d from the Lower Bahariya.

Both wells are to be tied into existing facilities less than 10 km distant, and the rigs are being moved to the Al Jahraa and El Samiya exploratory locations with targets in multiple Cretaceous horizons.

Kuwait Energy is operator with 50% interest. Dover Petroleum has 28%, and a unit of Beach Energy Ltd., Adelaide, has 22%.
