Trinidad and Tobago will seek bids in November on blocks in its deep water, said Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs Kevin Ramnarine.
The country’s last bid round was not as successful as government officials anticipated, said Director of Resource Management Helena Innis-King, adding that oil and gas companies saw little prospect of oil.
“We are in the middle of reprocessing that seismic data because the companies felt they could not see the Cretaceous, and that there was gas there,” she said. “We are convinced that it is both oil and gas, and our studies point to this.”
Innis-King said Trinidad and Tobago has a history of finding huge fields.
“If you look at the kind of [onshore]discoveries we have had, we have had some monster fields,” Innis-King said, adding she expects similar deepwater discoveries.
In the last deepwater bid round, BP PLC was awarded Blocks 14 and 23(a).
