Breitburn Energy Partners LP plans to begin a seismic survey of the West Oregon Basin oil field in Park County, Wyo., the US Bureau of Land Management’s Cody field office said on Sept. 27. It said that the Los Angeles-based independent producer, which operates the field, has hired Dawson Geophysical Co. to do the work.

Dawson will use a combination of buggy drilling and heliportable drilling in the first stage of exploration in an area comprised of 3,000 acres of public land, 2,860 acres of private land, and 640 acres of state land, according to BLM’s announcement. The drilling stage is expected to last 2 weeks, and aircraft and other equipment will be visible on both sides of US 120, which runs through the area, it said.

In late October, the seismic survey will continue with the Vibroseis technique and recording operations, BLM said. The exploratory seismic survey will facilitate creation of a 3D image of the geologic structures and stratigraphy underlying this area on the west side of Elk Butte, it indicated.
