Llanos basin oil find gauged; deeper zones eyed

Petroamerica Oil Corp., Calgary, said a Mirador light oil discovery on the Llanos basin Los Ocarros block in Colombia has reduced the exploratory risk of the deeper Gacheta and Une formations that will be drilled vertically later.

The Las Maracas-2 sidetrack flowed at rates as high as 938 b/d of 37° gravity oil, natural, with 1.3% bs&w through a 2-in. choke. It then flowed 24 hr on cleanup at 860 b/d of oil with 2% water cut and was shut in. Pressure build-up analysis showed significant skin damage. An electric submersible pump will be installed for further tests.

Petrophysical log evaluation obtained while drilling indicates 30-40 ft of net oil pay thickness in Mirador depending on cutoff parameters and 21% average porosity. Gacheta and Une weren’t probed in this well due to operational difficulties resulting from a high deviation angle.

Petroamerica and Parex Resources Colombia Ltd. Sucursal drilled the Las Maracas-2 sidetrack as an exclusive operation. Petroamerica farmed out to Parex half of Petroamerica’s 50% working interest in the 110,400-acre block. Petroamerica derived its interest from a farmout with Talisman (Colombia) Oil & Gas Ltd. Both farmouts are subject to approval by Colombia’s National Hydrocarbons Agency.
