Petro Vista Energy Corp., Vancouver, BC, has shut-in its Morichito M-5 oil discovery well on Colombia’s Llanos plains for pressure buildup to determine an optimal long-term production rate.

The well was reentered and has flowed as much as 700 b/d of 22.5° gravity oil on a hydraulic jet pump from perforations in the Lower Carbonera C7 zone at 5,900-02 ft. Drilled in March 2010, the M-5 previously tested two Carbonera C7 zones and identified a third potential pay zone in the Carbonera C1 from logs and sidewall cores.

The Carbonera C1 sand exhibited good porosity and oil shows in sidewall cores but was not tested and will be evaluated later.

The company has drilled the M-5B appraisal well on the Morichito structure that had good oil shows and indications of petrophysical pay in several zones including the Carbonera C7 zone productive downdip. The well could not be properly tested due to a failed cement job and needs to be redrilled or sidetracked.
