The US Bureau of Land Management’s environmental assessment of Samson Resources Co.’s proposed development of the Hornbuckle oil field in northern Wyoming is available, BLM’s Casper, Wyo., field office announced on Aug. 26. The EA includes a draft finding of no significant impact, it indicated.
It said Samson has proposed constructing 48 well pads and supporting infrastructure in and around the field in northern Converse County. The Tulsa-based independent producer plans to develop existing crude oil reserves within the Sussex formation and determine the potential for crude and natural gas production from other geologic formations within the project area, BLM said.
The proposed project would involve drilling a combination of both horizontal and vertical wells within the project area, according to BLM. It said in its EA that the typical well pad would be designed for two wells so that up to 96 wells could be drilled from the proposed 48 pads.
BLM said that it would accept comments on the EA, which may be viewed online until Sept. 26.
