HOUSTON, July 22 – OAO Lukoil, Moscow, and Vanco Energy Co., Houston, have acquired interests from private Oranto Petroleum Ltd. in the SL-5-11 block on the Sierra Leone-Liberia basin shelf and slope off Sierra Leone.
One exploratory well is to be drilled before 2013, where 2D and 3D seismic surveys have revealed several promising structures, Lukoil said. The block lies in 100-3,300 m of water in the Atlantic Ocean.
Interests in the 4,022 sq km block are Lukoil 49%, Oranto 30%, and Vanco 21%.
