HOUSTON, July 7 -- OMV Petrom has made a gas-condensate discovery that may be Romania’s most important onshore gas find in 6 years.
The 4539 Totea exploratory well flowed at a maximum rate of 18.6 MMcfd of gas plus condensate from a single zone. Wireline logging indicated the presence of multiple hydrocarbon-bearing intervals in the early Miocene objective.
Appraisal drilling is planned around the discovery, drilled to 3,600 m in a geologically complex area in the Oltenia region of southwestern Romania. The well targeted a potentially large, high-pressure accumulation.
The well was drilled following a recent 3D seismic program. Successful production tests were carried out on three representative reservoir intervals. Experimental production is to start by the end of 2011 as soon as the well can be tied into a nearby gas pipeline.
