HOUSTON, July 15 -- Alange Energy Corp., Toronto, has spud the Petirojo-1 exploratory well in Polygon B of the Cubiron block in the Llanos basin in Colombia.
The drilling follows interpretation of 49 sq km of 3D seismic shot in 2010. The interpretation revealed a prospect on trend with Palmarito field 5 km north. Palmarito had original oil in place of 19 million bbl of 37° gravity oil. The well targets Carbonera C7, C5, and C3 at 6,808 ft measured depth in what Alange called a typical Llanos play, an upthrown block of an antithetic fault.
Alange Energy has a 70% working interest in Polygon B of Cubiro and is operator of the block. The 2011 drilling program includes four wells in Cubiro.
