Azerbaijan: Greenfields to redevelop Caspian oil, gas

Greenfields Petroleum Corp., Houston, is starting a program to redevelop Soviet-era oil and gas fields in Caspian Sea shallow water just off Baku, Azerbaijan.

– Greenfields Petroleum Corp., Houston, is starting a program to redevelop Soviet-era oil and gas fields in Caspian Sea shallow water just off Baku, Azerbaijan.

Work in July 2011 by the company’s 33.33% affiliate Bahar Energy Ltd. at Well 372 on Platform 2 in Gum Deniz field resulted in a production increase to 625 b/d of oil from 280 b/d, constituting a gain of more than 20% in daily output from the field. Gum Deniz field has 11 established field pays from 2,000 m to more than 3,500 m.

Equipment is being moved to Platform 450 to recomplete Well 464, the first of 35 planned reworks planned for Gum Deniz field in the Phase 1 work program. Recompletion is expected to take 30 days/well.

To accelerate recompletions in Gum Deniz field and Bahar gas field 21 km south, Bahar Energy has let a 3-year contract to obtain two new workover rigs. Both are expected to be delivered by the end of 2011.

The Greenfields web site indicates that a 2D seismic survey is in progress over the lightly developed southern part of Gum Deniz field.
