HOUSTON, July 1
– Alaska has set a date of Oct. 26, 2011, for areawide lease sales on the central North Slope and adjacent state waters of the Beaufort Sea.

The Division of Oil & Gas had tentatively scheduled the sales for October in a call for information on Mar. 21. The areas to be leased are still being determined and could total as much as 14.7 million acres.

The Beaufort Sea acreage includes 2 million acres along the coast from Barrow to the border with Canada. The North Slope and Brooks Range foothills acreage extends about 70 miles on either side of the trans-Alaska oil pipeline east of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska and from the Beaufort Sea to a line about 75 miles inland.
