HOUSTON, June 29
– Uruguay’s ANCAP plans to open bids for the country’s second offshore license round blocks at the end of March 2012.

ANCAP will conduct road shows in Houston and Rio de Janeiro in October and November 2011 to describe the 15 blocks to be offered in the Punta del Este and Pelotas basins. Block size ranges from 2,300 sq km to 12,000 sq km.

Uruguay is licensing 6,300 km of recently gathered 2D seismic (OGJ Online, Feb. 25, 2011). Companies that wish to bid are required to qualify by the end of February 2012.

The nearest offshore hydrocarbon discoveries to the Uruguay blocks are 550 miles northeast in the Santos basin off Brazil.
