HOUSTON, June 27
– Salamander Energy PLC said the East Terrace long-reach exploratory well off Thailand discovered a combined 35 m of net oil pay in three zones separate from nearby Bualuang oil field.

The East Terrace well, drilled from the Bualuang wellhead platform on Salamander-operated B8/38 license, cut more than 6 m of net oil pay in the T5 sandstone, 18 m in the T4 interval that is the main reservoir unit in Bualuang field, and 11 m in the T3 interval.

Pressure measurements and fluid sampling confirmed East Terrace as being a separate accumulation to the main field, with a different oil viscosity, gas-oil ratio, and oil-water contact than Bualuang field. The preliminary evaluation of the data indicate a midcase estimate 8-14 million bbl recoverable from 50 million bbl of oil in place.

Meanwhile, on Block L15/50 the Dao Ruang-3 appraisal well was spudded on 25th April and to date has reached 1,590 m measured depth after being sidetracked twice to bypass the Kuchinarai shale interval in which it encountered drilling difficulties. Drilling will continue to the planned TD of 2,565 m MD to test the Pha Nok Khao target.
