Statoil lets contract for Asgard topsides modifications

By OGJ editors
HOUSTON, June 20
-- Statoil let a 650 million kroner contract to Aker Solutions for the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of the subsea compression topsides modifications on the Asgard installations off Norway.

The modifications will supply electricity to the Asgard subsea compressor units that will be installed in 2013 (OGJ Online, Nov. 10, 2010). Water depth in the area is 240-300 m.

The topsides modifications include building and installing an 800-tonne module and integration work on the Asgard A production and storage vessel and Asgard B semisubmersible production platform in the Norwegian Sea. Delivery is set for fourth-quarter 2014.

Statoil said, “Asgard is the first installation worldwide to employ subsea gas processing involving gas compression and this represents an important technological step change in the development of fields in deep and demanding waters and creates exciting opportunities for the industry.”

Aker plans to start immediately the procurement work and expects fabrication to start in 2011.

Aker Solutions last December received from Statoil a 3.4 billion kroner contract for developing the full-scale subsea compression system for fields tied to Asgard facilities.

Statoil plans to let later this year the contracts for pipelines, marine operations, and other major procurement items in connection with the Asgard development.

Partners for Asgard are Petoro AS 35.69%, operator Statoil 34.57%, Eni Norge AS 14.82%, Total E&P Norge AS 7.68%, and ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Norway AS 7.24%.
