Shell, Cosan start Brazilian ethanol venture

HOUSTON, June 2
-- Shell and Cosan SA, Piracicaba, Brazil, have started their joint venture to produce and market ethanol from sugar cane in Brazil (OGJ, Sept. 6, 2010, Newsletter).

Shell said participation in the joint venture represents its first move into ethanol production. The partners named the joint venture Raizen.

Raizen will produce and distribute more than 2 billion l./year of ethanol in Brazil. It also will distribute more than 20 billion l./year of other industrial and transport fuels.
